Whilst spending time in the African bush, as a child and teenager, it was torture having to sit still, and in silence, at a bird hide or look-out, so I began sketching the animals and birds instead. I developed a love for the way they move, interact and survive. I have approached these wonderful subjects in many different mediums; some combinations have been inspired by experimental ideas for art workshops and others are more straightforward and chosen to best reflect the animal I am painting at the time. I am constantly looking for ways to express their characters and vitality and show a comical side if appropriate.
